Texas Ballet Theater presents student matinee performances to Fort Worth
and Dallas Independent School District and other area elementary school students. The
majority of these children will see a live, fully professional ballet production
to orchestral accompaniment in a professional setting that they would not
otherwise have a chance to enjoy and experience. Educational program
booklets which include ballet history, French terminology, exercises, production
highlights and skills of dance are distributed to participating classrooms.
During the 2006-07 Season, Texas Ballet Theater presented eleven student matinee
performances of The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Alice in Wonderland at the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance
Hall in Fort Worth. Matinees help cultivate the next generation of arts supporters
and inspire students to aspire to try new things and realize the aestheticism
and athleticism of the art form. Approximately 25,745 elementary school
students from more than 238 schools from Fort Worth and Dallas Independent School
Districts, and surrounding area schools, attended this season’s student
matinee performances. Texas Ballet Theater also participated in Bass Performance Hall's distance learning program during the 2006-07 Season, which broadcast ballet performances to mostly rural schools with some as far away as New Jersey.
