General Information
Mission Statement
Texas Ballet Theater School is the official school of Texas Ballet Theater. It is the long-standing goal of Artistic Director Ben Stevenson to have a world-class school to develop talent from the Metroplex and to supply the North Texas community with professional instruction in the art of classical ballet. Texas Ballet Theater School includes classes in Modern and Jazz offering students a well-rounded dance education.
Studio Policy
The program at Texas Ballet Theater School Fort Worth Academy is designed to meet the needs of young dancers, whether planning a career in dance or not; while also providing a sound foundation for those who will proceed to serious ballet training. The emphasis is on posture, placement, coordination, dance quality and musicality, combined with a firm technique within the limits of each person's own development.
Placement
New students should call the school to schedule a placement audition class. Students are placed in appropriate levels based on a variety of criteria. These factors include age, ballet technique, physique, personal strength and intangibles such as talent, grace and maturity. Level placement is determined at the end of each school year, although movement from one level to the next may occur at anytime during the semester at the discretion of the instructors .At the same time, parents and students should not anticipate annual level advancements. Because the range of the criteria is so diverse, it may be two or more years before students are ready for advancement.
Studio Etiquette
Students must come to class on time and be promptly picked up afterwards. While waiting, they should remain in the lobby of the school. Students may not leave class without a teacher’s permission. Food, drink, and chewing gum are not allowed in the studios. Parents may enter studios by invitation only. Empty studios are not to be used as play areas. Parents who bring small children must supervise them! Out of consideration to the staff and others waiting in the lobby, disruptive children will be asked to leave .Any students who are disruptive in class will be asked to leave. Students and parents are not to enter the office unless by invitation, or an appointment with the administrator or a teacher has been made.
Notices and Messages
Important school notices and schedule changes are e-mailed to the entire school. It is each students and parents responsibility to regularly check for e-mail notices. If you are not receiving notices, please notify the office ASAP!
Tuition
Tuition is due on the first of the month. A reminder notice will be sent after the 5th of the month. To this point, we have been able to avoid imposing a late fee. Continuation of that practice is based solely on the idea that late payments will remain an unusual variance and not the norm. Tuition is based on the number of weeks in a year, so there is no change in tuition for longer or shorter months. No credit will be given for any classes missed. There are no make-up classes available. TUITION IS NON-REFUNDABLE. THERE IS NO REFUND FOR LESSONS MISSED. Reimbursements will not be given for classes missed for vacations or school functions. Texas Ballet Theater School must be informed in writing if a student decides to discontinue classes.
Annual Performance Fee
An annual performance fee is due from each student in February. This fee help to covers the costs associated with presenting the Spring Performance, including building rental, stage crews and costume creations. Please note that this is NOT a “costume fee” and it does not cover the entire cost of costuming, therefore costumes remain property of Texas Ballet Theater.
The fee varies based on the number of performances at each level and the specific costs for that year. Generally, lower level students can expect to pay around $65, while advanced level students will pay approximately $200. Students who opt out of the Spring Performance do not pay a performance fee.
